77-year-old homeowner blocks suspected burglars in his driveway until police arrive

"I know how to handle stuff," Victor Williamson says.

MONROE, Ga - Three suspected burglars are in custody after a homeowner arrived at his residence and blocked their getaway vehicle with his truck until police could arrive.

According to the Walton County sheriff's department, 77-year-old Victor Williamson, his wife, daughter and grandchild came home to find an unfamiliar Chevy pickup in his driveway.

Williamson told police he saw a man walking toward the truck from the back of home, allegedly carrying a Dewalt saw that belonged to him. The man who was allegedly carrying the saw was identified as Anthony Lewis.

“He knew that I would take him down one way or the other, cause I knew him and he knew me, and he always runs,” Williamson said, laughing.

Williamson then pulled into his driveway to block the truck from leaving. Amanda Williamson told her father there was a woman in the truck’s driver’s seat, later identified as Caroline Benkoski.

Williamson told police he saw a gun inside the truck that also belonged to him.

Williamson also told police they saw another man climbing out of a window from their home, a man who then ran toward a neighboring residence. Police found the third suspect, Christopher Bishop, hiding out next door.

Police also found that Williamson’s tool shed had been burglarized, and several firearms had been stolen, all of which were recovered.

“It takes a lot to get me upset,” Williamson said. “I know how to handle stuff, I mean I’m cool and calm and when somebody gets me angry ... I ain’t been angry in quite a few years, and when I get angry no one likes me.

“I’ve been through a lot in my lifetime.”

Bishop and Lewis are both facing several burglary charges, while Benkowski was charged with being a party to a crime.
