School custodian arrested after allegedly taking pictures of high school girls in the restroom

Worker used cell phone to record girls in the bathroom at Oconee County High School, police say.

WATKINSVILLE, Ga — Local deputies Wednesday arrested a custodian at Oconee County High School for allegedly using a cell phone to take pictures of female students in a school bathroom.

Deputies charged Timothy Burnette, 40, with one count of unlawful eavesdropping or surveillance. The arrest came after GBI agents executed a search warrant at Burnette's home.

He is now being held in the Oconee County jail pending a first court appearance.

An Oconee County schools spokesman told 11Alive News that Burnette was fired from his job after his arrest.

"Obviously, we're very troubled by this incident," said Brook Whitmire, Chief Human Resources Officer for Oconee County Schools.
