Mother gunned down with daughter in backseat identified

Police have no suspects nor motive at this time but they do believe there were two shooters.

ATLANTA – Police are searching for suspects after a woman was shot and killed in her car with her one-year-old daughter in the backseat.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired near the 1900 block of Terry Mill Road at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. When officers arrived at the scene, they found 33-year-old Tamika Trimble deceased inside the car along with a toddler in a car seat.

Officers believe someone fired shots at two different locations only about half a mile apart. They also believe Trimble attempted to escape the first location. Police said the shooters possibly followed her to the second scene where she died inside her car.

The as-of-yet unknown suspect or suspects fired several shots at the car from multiple angles, and police said it's very fortunate the toddler was not injured.

"You've got two scenes where the vehicle was fired upon at two different places, so it's coming from all angles on the vehicle which is one of the reasons it's miraculous the toddler wasn't injured."

Police have no suspects nor motive at this time but they do believe there were two shooters. Investigators found what they believe is an AR-15 and a handgun at the scene.

The toddler was taken in by the Georgia Division for Family and Children Services until family is able to come get her.

Just three weeks before Christmas and, according to a friend and former neighbor, Trimble left behind seven children – her oldest in high school and the youngest the 1-year-old who was in the car. The neighbor described Trimble as a great friend and even better mother.

For now, the search is on for witnesses to help crack this tragic case.

"They're canvassing the area, talking to people in the neighborhood to see if they may have seen or heard anything," Shiera Campbell said.
