From Austria to Atlanta, timber is key to new office project at Atlantic Station

The wooden structure will store an estimated 3,646 metric tons of carbon dioxide. which is equal to taking about 1,000 cars off the road.

T3 West Midtown, the region’s first timber-framed office project, is going vertical.

The project by Hines is expected to open next summer.

Since October, shipments of timber have been making a 5,000-mile journey to Atlanta from Austria to build the 230,000-square-foot modern office project at Atlantic Station.

The timber comes from young tress instead of old growth, which helps in preservation efforts for future generations.

Once completed, the wooden structure will store an estimated 3,646 metric tons of carbon dioxide, that's the equivalent of taking about 1,000 cars off the road.

Building with mass timber produces a high strength-to-weight ratio of materials, which allows for smaller foundations.

The materials also have good fire-proofing qualities due to the charring nature of heavy timber.

T3 West Midtown will include expansive rooftop terraces, social shared spaces and next-gen connectivity.
