Almost 7,000 sign petition urging police to drop charges against rapper T.I.

The rapper was arrested outside a gated Henry County community on Wednesday.

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- Almost 7,000 people have signed an online petition urging charges to be dropped against rapper T.I.

The performer, whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., was arrested Wednesday morning outside of his gated community.

According to police, the guard at Eagles' Landing Country Club called police on T.I. and a friend after the rapper began yelling at the guard, who refused to let him in the gate. An argument ensued, and eventually Harris was arrested and charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

T.I. was booked into the Henry County jail but posted a $2,250 bail shortly after.

T.I.'s wife, R&B singer and songwriter Tameka "Tiny" Harris, owns a home in the Eagles's Landing Country Club community that she bought in 2014.

"The racist guards of T.I.'s community should have never called the police,” reads the petition. “A simple check would have proven who he was and the situation could have resolved there. But instead they decided to involve the police which used the opportunity, not to aid the citizen in need, but support security who were in the wrong."
