ROYSTON, Ga. — A locally owned grocery store caught fire just after midnight on Friday, according to the city of Royston's Facebook page.
The post came from Mayor Kieth Turman, who reported that a massive fire resulted in a total loss at Dill's Food City on Cooks Street. The store had been open for nearly 80 years.
He went on to thank those who came to put out the fire, which was a multi-county and city effort.
"Because of their bravery and efforts, they were able to save the adjacent buildings/businesses on both sides," Turman said, adding later, "My heart aches with pain for this horrific loss for the Dilworth family, its employees, and our community. Please keep us in your prayers."
The cause of the fire was not provided, and no one was reported hurt.
