Lawyer defends client in FVSU investigation: 'Her life is just turned upside down'

Alecia Johnson resigned almost two weeks ago amid the GBI's investigation into alleged employee misconduct

The lawyer for a former Fort Valley State University official is defending his client amid an ongoing investigation into alleged sexual misconduct.

Attorney Adrian Patrick says Alecia Johnson is cooperating with the GBI.

She is the former university official linked to the agency’s investigation into sexual misconduct at the school and at the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.

On April 18, she resigned as assistant to the president, but her attorney maintains his client’s innocence.

He says they’ve searched her home after getting a search warrant and have also searched her phone.

He says his client is working to piece her life together even though social media has indicted her without evidence.

“Her life is turned upside down. She worked at the university [for] almost 14 years doing a great job with no disciplinary action, anything like that. Now for this information to come out is obviously upsetting and disappointing,” said Patrick. “She has to decide how she’s going to restructure her family. What we have to do is look into what person, what set of people started this information. Look at their credibility to determine whether there’s reliability there or not.”

Patrick says Johnson has no authority over the sorority, which is also a focus of the investigation.
