UPDATE: The Gainesville Police Department has taken both subjects wanted in connection to the officer involved shooting into custody at a private residence according to Sgt. Kevin Holbrook with the police department.
GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- According to a Gainesville Police report, at about 9:30 Friday night, officers responded to a domestic dispute at the Burger King on Athens Street.
A caller to 911 said a male was dragging a female down the street.
"During that call, the caller stated that the male subject was dragging the female down the road," Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said.
When the first officer arrived, he got into a physical altercation with the male subject, later identified by police as 20-year-old Marcos Garcia Tovar. During the altercation, the female subject, later identified as Alondra Rodriguez, also age 20, walked up behind the officer and began to pistol whip the officer in the head with a gun.
When a second officer arrived, Tovar and Rodriguez began to run away. As the second officer was getting out of his patrol car, one of the two subjects shot at the officer. The officer shot back at the fleeing pair, who got away.
Multiple law enforcement agencies joined a manhunt for Tovar and Rodriguez, including the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Bureau of Investigation along with other state, local and federal agencies. The GBI is leading the investigation.
The two officers were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment and evaluation. Both received minor injuries during the altercation, and have since been released.
Authorities are continuing to search for Tovar and Rodriguez. The two have active warrants for aggravated assault on a peace officer.
