The American Football Coaches Wives Association (AFCWA) announced today that registration is now available online for the annual AFCWA Convention, January 7 – 10, 2018 in Charlotte, NC. Held in conjunction with the American Football Coaches Association’s (AFCA) convention each year, the AFCWA convention brings together coaches’ wives from all over the country to meet in the spirit of support, service, information and camaraderie.

Membership registration to the organization is also available for the 2017-2018 year. Annual membership dues are just $30. As an AFCWA member, wives receive access to discounts and special offers, a closed Facebook forum, the “New Wives/ Seasoned Wives” program, scholarship opportunities and discounted convention fees.

The AFCWA convention features a visit to Levine’s Children’s Hospital, an annual luncheon and speaker, seminars and new this year, a custom, progressive lunch at some of Charlotte’s popular restaurants. Registration is $10 for AFCWA members, but other costs may apply to specific activities such as the luncheon and the Taste of Charlotte progressive lunch. “Our annual convention is a time of educational programs, a time of coming together and meeting up with friends from previous staffs and making new ones. This annual coming together of wives from all levels of coaching is a time where we recharge our batteries between the busy season and recruiting or between various sports. We also take time to provide service to a local hospital and award scholarships to coaches’ wives who are working on their education,” explains Jeanne Etheridge, AFCWA president.

For wives unable to attend the convention, an AFCWA membership is still available. AFCWA members enjoy the benefits of newsletters, and a community from which to draw valuable information. To become a member, complete your registration through the AFCWA website at http://www.afcwa.org/membership.html.

The AFCWA is led by a Board of Directors, elected by the membership. The 2017 AFCWA Board of Directors are President: Jeanne Etheridge (Marietta, GA); Vice President: Kristi Maloney, Olivet College (Olivet, MI); Secretary: Christina Emery, Western New England University (Springfield, MA); and Treasurer: Lyndee Sears, Benedictine University (Atchison, KS).

Other board members include: Gina Godding, Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Waxahachie, TX); Cynthia Griffing, Cinco Ranch High School (Katy, TX); Lauren Horton, Auburn University (Auburn, AL); Kathryn Jeffries, Oxon Hill High School (Oxon Hill, MD); Chrissy Jolley, Eldon High School (Eldon, MO); Theresa Lemke, Graceland University (Lamoni, IA); Mary Helen Maskill, Midwestern State University (Wichita Falls, TX); Mesha Mathis, St. Frances High School (Milton, GA); Wendy Oliver, Lindsey Wilson College (Columbia, KY); Yvette Turner, Texas A & M University (College Station, TX); Jasmine Watson, Alabama A&M University (Normal, AL); and Rochelle Kelly Wristen, Colorado State University – Pueblo (Pueblo, CO).

Etheridge is the wife of Coach Harold Etheridge. They will celebrate their 26th season this fall. During their coaching career the Etheridge’s have lived in Kentucky, Illinois, New York, Texas, Washington, Indiana and Georgia.

Etheridge’s excitement in leading the AFCWA is noticeable. “I am so proud and humble to serve these wonderful coaches wives. Wives are very talented and generous in sharing knowledge and support with each other,” explained Etheridge. “The AFCWA is the perfect organization for coaches’ wives on all levels. Our organization is represented by wives of high school coaches all the way through the professional ranks.”

Mathis is married to St. Frances High School (Rome, GA) Coach Tim Mathis. Currently serving as the assistant treasurer, Mathis is proud to be an AFCWA board member “because I believe in everything that this organization stands for.
