Miami-bound flight makes emergency landing at Hartsfield-Jackson

A flight crew member reported a possible fire on-board forcing the flight to land in Atlanta.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport was placed on a temporary ground stop Wednesday evening when a flight crossing through the area had to make an emergency landing.

According to Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson Kathleen Bergen, an American Airlines flight (1308) was forced to make the landing as it traveled from O'Hare International Airport in Chicago to Miami International Airport when a member of the crew reported a possible fire.

The aircraft landed safely on runway nine-right, which was closed off while airport rescue and fire crews responded. They searched and found no fire. The ground stop, which prevented fights headed for Atlanta from taking off, was put in place to allow air traffic control to manage flights while the runway was closed.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has since announced on social media that the ground stop was lifted.
