GAINESVILLE, Ga. — The Gainesville Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured two teenagers on Tuesday night.

Authorities responded to the 600 block of Central Avenue for a shooting around 9 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of a number of juveniles who got into a fight and weapons were pulled. Investigators later discovered that two 13-year-olds had gunshot wounds to the legs from a shooting. Both went to the hospital and are in stable condition.

It is currently unknown how many people were involved as most left before law enforcement arrived, according to police.

The police department said that oftentimes, minors obtain guns from cars. The department is encouraging others never to leave firearms in a vehicle as those are often stolen during car break-ins.
