ATLANTA — 11Alive/WXIA-TV announced Monday that Angelina Salcedo will be joining the station on April 29 as a multi-skilled journalist. Salcedo comes to 11Alive from TEGNA sister station WTSP-TV in Tampa where she is the weekend morning anchor and lead evening reporter. She specializes in reporting on the big story of the day, whether that’s chasing down breaking news or providing stories with solutions for people living in and around Tampa Bay.
During her five years at 10 Tampa Bay, she’s covered local and national stories including hurricanes, Marco Rubio’s senate re-election, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ run for the Republican Presidential nomination, and some Super Bowl and Stanley Cup wins. She previously worked for another TEGNA station, WOI-TV in Des Moines, Iowa as a reporter and fill-in anchor reporting on the disappearance of University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbets as well as flash flooding and tornadoes that devastated communities.
“Angelina joins 11Alive at a time when the station is prioritizing local reporting that is highly relevant to the lives of the Atlanta audience,” said Carol Fowler, 11Alive’s Director of Content. “Her passion for covering diverse communities fits perfectly with this mission.”
“It’s important to me to highlight all voices in the communities we serve, which in Tampa is often my native language of Spanish,” said Salcedo. “I’ve focused my reporting on communities plagued by gun violence. By diving deeper into crime trends, I’m able to identify the issues causing upticks in crime. I look forward to doing this kind of impactful journalism in Atlanta, too.”
Salcedo grew up in Boston as a first-generation Dominican American. Her love for journalism is a family-affair in the city; her dad is an anchor for Encuentro Latino, her mom anchored for more than 20 years at WBZ-TV, and her brother is a sports reporter at WCVB-TV.
She graduated from Emerson College in her hometown, where she spent all four years at the college’s award-winning TV station, WEBN-TV Boston. The experience kickstarted her career, by allowing her to cover major news events such as the 2016 Presidential Election and inauguration in Washington, D.C., the Boston Marathon, and the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
