Bill Liss focuses his reporting on special assignments, along with covering consumer, financial, and legal developments. He writes and anchors the popular WXIA Senior Source vignette series that appears on WXIA/WATL and on the 11Alive website.
Bill joined WXIA in 1989 as part of the 11Alive Morning News team, airing a daily "Money Matters" report for more than 18 years. He also anchored and directed the 11AliveHelp Desk Team (formerly Call for Action) for more than 15 years.
Having been named Georgia Broadcaster of the Year in 2012, Bill has earned almost a dozen Emmy Awards and the Silver Circle Award from the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the Edward R. Murrow Team Investigative Reporting Award, plus reporting awards from the Associated Press, the Association of Black Journalists and the Atlanta Bar Association.
An attorney and active member of the Bar of the State of New Jersey and the District of Columbia, he is also admitted to practice before the Federal and District Courts and the United States Supreme Court. Bill is an honorary member of the Atlanta Bar Association and serves on the Task Force of the Georgia Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism. He is an active Volunteer Attorney with the non-profit Georgia Justice Project, based in Atlanta.
Over the years, Bill has served on the Boards of the Atlanta Fire-Rescue Foundation, the Northside Hospital Foundation, Inroads Atlanta, the Emory University Board of Visitors, Literacy Action and the Center for Entrepreneurship at Clark Atlanta University. In addition, Bill has been a guest lecturer at the Emory University Graduate School of Business, and the Clark Atlanta Business School.
Having been on expeditions through the High Arctic to the North Pole; through Tibet to Mt. Everest; to the Antarctic; through the Peruvian Andes; and to the Gobi and Sahara Deserts, Bill is a member of the Board and head of media for the worldwide Explorers Club, and has been elected a Fellow in both the Royal Geographical Society of the United Kingdom, and the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.
Bill is a U.S. Air Force veteran and is active with programs with the USO in Atlanta.
He is a graduate of Rutgers University, where he served on its Board of Trustees, and he holds a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University.
Bill and his wife Debbie have two children.
