AUSTIN, Tx. -- One group of elementary students paid tribute to Prince Thursday afternoon the best way they knew how; music.

The East Austin Music Academy show choir, made of third through sixth graders, sang "Purple Rain" during class.

The school's assistant music director, Justyn Payne, posted the rendition to Facebook.

"I taught them in 15 minutes," said Payne.

The school, which is relatively new, is being designed to be a school that's focused on music, said Payne. While the kids may not have taken Thursday's news hard, staff had a different reaction.

"You could hear the staff through the halls, and the kids were like, 'What happened?' Payne explained. "I told them Prince was a musical influence on everyone they like now. Beyonce', Bruno Mars, they listened to Prince. All these musical artists respected and loved Prince and the music he made."

The choir has been together at the school for only two months.
