ATLANTA — "Star Wars" fans got a big surprise during a special screening of "Episode I: The Phantom Menace" on Saturday, when one of the series' biggest stars graced the stage.
Ewan McGregor, who played Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi in the "Star Wars" prequel series, made a surprise visit at Atlanta's Plaza Theatre in Midtown, delighting fans who thought they were simply in for a fun night at the movies.

The screening on May 4th, a day of celebration for "Star Wars" fans across the globe, was partially to honor "The Phantom Menace's" 25th anniversary, first hitting theaters in May of 1999.
After the screening, McGregor participated in a Q&A and presented Atlanta Film Festival (ATLFF) community partners from Wax & Wane, Rocco Shapiro and Sean Valdivieso with autographed collectible lightsabers.
Over the years, patrons at Atlanta's Plaza Theatre have come to expect appearances from big-name actors and celebrated filmmakers during special screenings. Just last month, the theater hosted a special birthday celebration for filmmaker Francis-Ford Coppola, with the director in attendance.
