(WXIA) -- German character actor Gottfried John, best known to American audiences as the villainous Russian General Arkady Ourumov in the James Bond film "GoldenEye," died last week in Munich, Germany at the age of 72.
"GoldenEye" star Pierce Brosnan posted a memorial message on his Facebook page: "My dear friend, We played in the world of James Bond and traveled the world together to celebrate the success of Goldeneye. I am so proud to have worked along side you. My prayers and sympathies go out to your family at this sad time in life...Peace be with you. Pierce"
John's credits were mostly in German and European productions, but included American appearances in the TV series Millennium and a starring role in the short-lived 90s series Space Rangers. John also appeared in Taylor Hackford's 2000 film Proof of Life and the HBO-BBC joint production The Gathering Storm.
