Jamie Foxx to address health issues at one-man shows in Atlanta

Foxx is returning to Atlanta to tell his story on stage this week.

ATLANTA — Jamie Foxx is returning to Atlanta tonight, where he will perform three nights in a row in a one-man show touching on the recent health scare that left him hospitalized last year.

According to Atlanta radio station V-103, the actor/singer/comedian will take the stage for a live taping of his new comedy special, 'What Had Happened Was: An Evening with Jamie Foxx." The exclusive shows will take place Oct. 3-5 at the Coca-Cola Stage at the Alliance Theatre.

"Atlanta saved my life. 'Cause I was here when it (his health scare) happened," Foxx said in an Aug. 18 video posted to Instagram. "Atlanta saved me. If I had been anywhere else..."

Audiences can expect an "unforgettable" show as Foxx opens up about his "struggles, triumphs, and everything in between," he posted.

The show does not appear to be open to the public but will reportedly air on television at a later time, according to V103. Netflix announced last month that Foxx would have a special on the streaming platform that would air later this year.

What happened to Jamie Foxx?

On April 12, 2023, his daughter, Corrine Foxx, wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post, "We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday," the post said. "Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time."

For the next several weeks, official information was hard to come by, but several friends, including Nick Cannon, Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart, offered small nuggets (sometimes second-hand) of possible insight.

In early May, FOX Entertainment announced Jamie Foxx would not return for the next season of the Fox game show "Beat Shazam."

Around that time, updates on the actor's condition became more optimistic. Foxx's Instagram account posted, "Appreciate all the love!!! Feeling blessed."

By mid-May, with the lack of information leading to rumors, Corrine Foxx attempted to set the record straight, writing in an Instagram story, "Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone's prayers and support!"

In July, Foxx was seen in public for the first time since the medical incident, waving to fans from a boat on the Chicago River.

Just weeks after that, Foxx posted the first photo of himself on social media since the incident, writing, "Thankful for my @betmgm family and a great few nights in Vegas. We got BIG things coming soon.”

Hours after that, Foxx posted an emotional video thanking fans.
