Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre bringing beat to Atlanta's Fox Theater

In addition to performing their world-renowned ballet, Revelations, Ailey will also debut other works for the first time in Atlanta including: Greenwood and Ode.

ATLANTA — The rich cultural decadence of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre will make its way to Atlanta this weekend.

A rep for the organization says a string of performances will take place in Atlanta beginning Thursday, February 23 and will conclude on Sunday, February 23 at the Fox Theatre.

In addition to performing their world-renowned ballet, Revelations, Ailey will also debut other works for the first time in Atlanta including: Greenwood and Ode.

The Greenwood performance will be delivered by choreographer Donald Byrd and is inspired by 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.

This is Byrd’s fifth work for Ailey, “Greenwood” navigates through one of the worst incidents of racial violence in US history and explores the story through different lenses of those who were affected.

For “Ode”, Ailey dancer Jamar Roberts offers a meditation on the beauty and fragility of life in a time of growing gun violence.

A rep for the company says “Ode” is the first in a series of three works he is creating in his new role as Resident Choreographer.
