CORAL GABLES, Fla. — World boxing champion Gervonta Davis was arrested in Florida after a clip surfaced on social media appearing to show him grabbing his former girlfriend by the neck over the weekend.
Davis, who lives and works in Atlanta, surrendered himself to Coral Gables Police in Florida following an investigation.
The Coral Gables Police Department reported they were notified about the incident on social media and by the victim, his former girlfriend. The two have a child together.
Back in December, Davis, 25, won the crown as the undefeated champion for the WBA Lightweight title, with a 12th-round knockout of Yuriorkis Gamboa.
The live event was televised on Showtime in front of more than 14,000 fans at State Farm Arena.
It was the first boxing world title fight in Atlanta since Evander Holyfield held the world heavyweight title.
Davis has been charged with Simple Battery/Domestic Violence and remains in custody.
