The Atlanta donut shop drawing celebs for a bite

Founder Kamal Grant has been curing sweet tooths in Atlanta for over a decade, and his clientele is pretty sweet, too.

ATLANTA — The 2nd annual Ultimate Sugar Show is returning this year, and The A-Scene’s Francesca Amiker got a sweet preview of what’s to come.

You can only see the flavors of doughnuts in this story - but customers of Sublime Donuts get to taste them every day. Founder Kamal Grant has been curing sweet tooths in Atlanta for over a decade, and his clientele is pretty sweet, too.

“Donald Glover, Mr. Childish Gambino. He came through and he bought a hat and he would wear the hat everywhere," Grant said. "Storm Reid came by. We did a special doughnut for her, because she has been a fan."

Reid is not the not the only fan. Founder of the Ultimate Sugar Show Cydni Mitchell has just asked the doughnuteer to showcase at the second annual Ultimate Sugar Show.

The A-Scene caught up with the founder of the event and learned why she pulled in the owner of the iconic doughnut shop loved by celebrities nationwide.

This year’s theme is Sounds of the South."

“This is really 'sounds of the A.' And so we want to really highlight the musical traditions of the South as well as the genres - country music, hip-hop, gospel,” Mitchell said. “I can’t express how excited I am. Just to see the growth over the past four or five years.”

This year’s headliner is a big deal to the food and television community.

“Ron Israel - he’s one of the judges from 'Cake Wars' and he’s also the host of a show called 'Sweet Genius,' and he’s like a giant in the industry,” Mitchell said.

During the Ultimate Sugar Show, Kamal will be showing parents how to use leftover candy to make an even tastier treat.

You can find tickets for The Ultimate Sugar Show online.
