ATLANTA — It's not only film and television shows, Georgia’s gaming industry is another facet of the booming entertainment industry.
A new report released by the Georgia Game Developers Association shows how it impacts the economy for the state. Dr. Jay O’Toole, an Assistant Professor at Elon University’s School of Business in the department of Management and Entrepreneurship, wrote the report. Georgia’s game development studios and workers participated in the survey.
In 2018, the statewide economic impact of the electronic and video game industry in Georgia exceeded $830 million.
Not only is gaming a $48 billion industry, we learned Georgia employed more than 2,000 people in the gaming profession in 2018. In that same year, 452 new gaming jobs were created.
“Our state’s game development industry has enjoyed unparalleled growth since it was added to Georgia’s entertainment tax credit program in 2005,” Andrew Greenberg, executive director of the GGDA wrote in a statement sent to 11Alive. “We had eight studios in the entire state back then. We are now tracking more than 160 active companies involved in game development
Full-time employees in the industry collectively earned more than $171 million in 2018 with the total labor impact for the state of about $330 million.
And just in case you were wondering, these are full-time quality jobs with an average base of $72,000 per year.
