ATLANTA — Grammy nominations are in, and five Georgia recording artists are up for the biggest award in music.
Leading the nominations for the state is Lil Nas X. The "Old Town Road" singer is up for Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, and Best New Artist.
Atlanta Rappers Young Thug and 21 Savage also grabbed nods this year.
But that’s not all, Georgia gospel singers Tasha Cobbs Leonard and William Murphy round out the local nominees.
Lil Nas X's “Old Town Road (Remix)” has been a crossover event merging country music with the trap music genre.
The song became a pop hit for various audiences, and broke Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's record for the longest running No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100.
Billboard pulled it from the chart in March, when the magazine called it more of a rap song than a country song.
Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, is a native of Lithia Springs, and worked locally at Zaxby's and Six Flags before he became a full-time musician.
Hill, a proud Georgia resident, returned to his educational roots at Lithia Springs High School. He graduated back in 2017.
Before the school year started, Douglas County Schools gave the star a major shout out by sharing his yearbook photo on social media.
“Old Town Road is hot and keeps getting hotter,” Douglas County Schools wrote in the post.
