ATLANTA — One of Atlanta's biggest music stars took home his first Moonman!
Lil Nas X emerged in fiery red cowboy suit to accept the 2019 MTV Video Music Award for "Song of The Year."
“This is my first award ever,” the "Old Town Road" superstar said in his short acceptance speech. The star took out a huge paper but only said thanks before passing the stage to Billy Ray Cryus.
The Atlanta native was nominated for eight total 2019 MTV Video Music Awards.
The rapper's country-crossover hit "Old Town Road" created major controversy when it opened at number 19 on the Billboard Hot Country chart. Billboard pulled it from the chart in March, when the magazine called it more of a rap song than a country song.
Cyrus performs on a remix of "Old Town Road," which became an even bigger hit. That version of "Old Town Road" remained at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a record-breaking 19 weeks, passing up a previous records held by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day," and "Despacito," by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber.
Lil Nas X is a native of Lithia Springs, Georgia, and worked locally at Zaxby's and Six Flags before he became a full-time musician.
