ATLANTA — The 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards are tonight, and host Ricky Gervais will join the five-timers club!
But this time will be his last, adding even more unpredictability to a man who feels he has nothing to lose.
“This is the last time. there's a limit,” Gervais said.
Viewers likely thought Ricky Gervais had reached that limit years ago! His on-air jabs at celebrities shook up Hollywood’s favorite champagne party, ruffling feathers, offending nominees, and making for some cringe-worthy moments.
It's not that Gervais doesn't enjoy rubbing elbows with the glitterati, but he prefers not to gear the show toward them for the sake of those outside the auditorium and watching at home.
“They're not winning awards. they're not millionaires. so I try to make it a spectator sport,” Gervais said.
Spectators will have plenty to look for on the normally free-wheeling telecast, including a lifetime achievement award for Tom Hanks, but even top-shelf icons have not been safe from the wrath of Ricky.
“I'm in this for my amusement. no one else's. and if you don't care about the backlash. It's great,” Gervais said.
A-Listers may want to brace for the final curtain of a man going out on his own terms...who isn't afraid to pull the rug out from anybody else.
