'Little,' filmed in Atlanta, focuses on a bigger picture

There's a lot more to this movie beyond a business mogul being ruined. It's packed with black excellence.

ATLANTA — The latest production to come out of Atlanta packs a punch. 'Little,' produced by mega producer Will Packer and starring Issa Rae, Regina Hall and Marsai Martin, has a lot of humor and wit.

But there's a lot more to this movie beyond the plot of a business mogul being ruined small, learning a lesson and going big again. 'Little' is filled with black excellence!

Girls Trip’s Regina Hall and Black-ish’s Marsai Martin both star as Jordan Sanders.

Hall stars as the take-no-prisoners tech mogul adult version of Jordan, and Martin stars as the 13-year-old version of her, who wakes up in her adult self’s penthouse just before a do-or-die presentation.

'Insecure' star Issa Rae plays Jordan’s long-suffering assistant, April, the only one in on the secret. Her daily tormentor is now trapped in an awkward tween body, just as everything is on the line.

The film is an irreverent new comedy about the price of success, the power of sisterhood and having a second chance to grow up -- and glow up -- right.

It takes the phrase "black girl magic" to another level -- from the cast, crew and writers, to the leading female director working behind the scenes.

“It doesn’t happen enough and I love the fact that I can be a part of supporting that level of talent,” Packer said.

“And there are so many behind the scenes like the fashions and even the artwork spotted throughout the movie,” Regina Hall added.

"The artist I found on Instagram. She was minding her business and I was like, 'you have to do the art for Big Jordan‘s apartment,'" director Tina Gordon told The A-Scene’s Francesca Amiker.

Martin, 14, is the executive producer for the movie and also came up with the concept. She is the youngest executive producer in history.

“She was so malleable. She was willing to listen and learn but yet everything she wanted was very specific,” Gordon said.

“We wanted to make sure we were making a movie that was authentic and realistic but that also had the right tone for the teens of today,” Packer added.

The film was produced in several parts of Atlanta.

I just love it. It’s film friendly and a lot of great locations,” Gordon said.

“A lot of production happening here. People see the yellow location signs and you cover all the stuff that’s happening here, but a lot of times Atlanta is being shot for everywhere else in the world,” Packer said.

Moviegoers will recognize Mercedes-Benz Stadium as Issa passes by while riding a bike in the film.

“People who watch the movie it’s going to be like, oh fun, “Where is Waldo?” figuring out where we shot stuff,” Gordon said. “Where Jordan’s office is… I make sure to show where the trains run through, where they are revitalizing that entire area. I won’t tell where it is, so go check it out.”
