Marietta, GA- You may have seen the FEC production signs around Marietta and Fayetteville the past few weeks. They're for the feature film, "Tyson's Run" and the crew and cast gave the A-Scene amazing access so we can take you behind the scenes!
“At first, it was for tax credits and the proper setting, but once you get here, you realize it’s for the hospitality.” Kim Bass, creator of shows like “Kenan and Kel” and “Sister, Sister” talks why he chose to come to Georgia to film his upcoming film, “Tyson’s Run.”
The A-Scene went behind the scenes earlier this week on set of the film which stars Major Dodson (The Walking Dead) as a boy with Autism. He begins to train for a marathon with a disgraced former champion, played by Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips), in an attempt to reconnect with his father, played by Rory Cochrane (Argo).
He’ll face roadblocks along the way with his fiercely protective mother, played by Amy Smart, watching his every move.
From the director down, everyone seemed to love being in Georgia. “It feels like LA on some level, but it’s way more green,” said Amy Smart. Claudia Zevallos explained that her favorite part was going to Buckhead, “Everyone has a smile on their face!”
Aside from the Peach State excitement, the cast was thrilled to be filming a movie with such an important message behind it, acceptance. “With this story it’s like the Tyson character, he is such an original, and I think we need to more embrace the differences rather than trying to make everyone be the same.”
With such a consistent and familial feel throughout the set, the film is bound to be amazing. Major Dodson, who landed his first lead role at only 15, summed it up for us, “The nice thing about working on the set is you don’t know who you’re going to meet and once the people turn out to be pretty pleasant, then all in all it just becomes an amazing experience.”
Kim Bass closes us out with a promise that he’ll be back, “That southern hospitality goes along with the professionals who are here and so it was the absolute right choice to come here and it’s been a fantastic experience and I don’t think it’ll be my last time here making a film.”
“Tyson’s Run” is set to hit the big screens next year. Before it drops, we’ll be rolling even more content for you from the A-Scene’s behind the scenes interview with the executive producer, John Cappetta. He’ll tell you how to improve your chances of getting on a movie's film crew!
