Macon, GA- The HBO adaptation of "The Watchmen" is scheduled to shoot in Macon on June 6th and 7th, but preparations are already starting downtown. A number of Atlanta-area extras are casting for the project.
Signs are up along a section of Second Street in downtown Macon to keep parking spaces open for crews. There are also signs to let people know businesses are still open.
Signs on doors of several businesses confirm that shooting will be happening on June 6th and 7th.
To complicate matters, it seems HBO is using the code name "Brooklyn" for a number of projects being shot in Georgia.
One is "The Watchmen." HBO is adapting the original DC Comics graphic novel into a series. The story focused on an alternate history where super heroes show their existence and end up altering history. Most notably, the U.S. wins the Vietnam War and the Watergate break-in, which brought down Richard Nixon's presidency, is never uncovered. Super heroes fall out of favor and are eventually outlawed.
Another production shooting under the name "Brooklyn" appears to be an HBO production on the true story of the life of African American assistant U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves. He served in the late 1800's and died just after the turn of the century. There was even a recent casting call under the subject "Bass Extra," using the Brooklyn code name. There may be other productions using the Brooklyn code, as well.
On Friday crews were just starting to change the store fronts so we're not sure what they'll look like like when they're finished.
Several of the Macon shoots involve electric cars, scooters, and Segue scooters, which would seem to match a modern superhero world better than the Old West. A permit was also filed with the city of Macon for a car chase in the Fifth Street area.
Rose Locke Casting and CL Casting are handling the casting for the "Brooklyn" productions.
