ATLANTA - If your child or teen has decided they want to run out to a casting call for their shot at stardom, there are a few steps you have to take first.

New rules for children working in entertainment in Georgia took effect on January 1, 2018, and the Georgia Department of Labor launched a new permitting process for children on February first of this year to comply with those changes.

A spokesperson with the Georgia Department of Labor tells the A-Scene that the old system required filling out paper forms by hand and could be time-consuming. With Georgia's booming film industry, it was time for an update.

In order for a child or teen to work in entertainment, a representative for the minor must register them with the Georgia Department of Labor. The form is here and only takes a few minutes to fill out. The catch is that it can take a couple of days to process the request. That means you need to take care of registration well before any planned casting calls.

Once your child goes through the process, you can print the certificate out and take it with you to any casting calls. The permit is good until they turn 18 in most cases. With it they can earn some extra cash and maybe even launch a new career in film!
