Here are the trendiest dog names in Atlanta for 2021

The Tokyo Olympics and food likely inspired pet names across the metro area, report shows.

ATLANTA — Atlanta is known for its music and food scenes and new data shows that's reflected in the city's fluffiest residents.

The number of pet owners grew in the metro Atlanta area, notably during the coronavirus pandemic which also inspired a wave of pet adoptions. After digging into a database of more than a million pet owners, popular dog sitting app Rover took a look at pet name trends across metro Atlanta.

The most popular pet names aren't much of a surprise.

Dog tags across Atlanta read Charlie, Max, Milo, Bentley and Beau to round out the top boy names.

When it comes to female dogs, Bella, Luna, Lucy, Daisy and Lily are the most popular, according to Rover.

The dog sitting app even ranked cat names.

In Atlanta, the top five tomcat names are Milo, Leo, Oliver, Max and Charlie. Popular female feline names are Luna, Bella, Kitty, Lucy and Sophie.

Beyond popularity, there are new names wagging their way into Atlanta's trendiest pet names.

Food-inspired cat names that seem to take the cake are Mango, KitKat, Taco and Cheddar. However, the best breakfast names go to the dogs. Rover said Atlanta pet parents took a bite out of the food trend with names like Waffle, Maple and Bacon.

Dog owners also seemed to be inspired by music as Doja and Yeezy got into the mix for the first time this year, Rover data shows. The names likely stem from popstar Doja Cat who exploded in the music industry this year and rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, who made headlines with a legal name change a few months ago.

Hints of the Summer Olympics are also reflected in an emerging dog name. Following the Tokyo Olympics, the name Simone trended in Atlanta for the first time, Rover's data shows. The name likely stems from TIME'S Athlete of the Year, Simone Biles. The gymnast was celebrated for her stance on mental health after withdrawing from several events during the Tokyo Olympics.

Rover said pet names reflect what's happening in the world and what their owners connect with.
