'Cat lawyer' in viral video says he got a big laugh out of mishap - just like the rest of the world

If you haven't seen the video yet, you probably haven't been on the Internet in the past 24 hours.

ALPINE, Texas — A virtual court hearing in Texas took a turn when an attorney showed up looking like a kitten. That's because a Zoom filter was activated on attorney Rod Ponton's device -- obscuring his appearance and made him look like a cat.

If you haven't seen the video yet, you probably haven't been on the Internet in the past 24 hours.

"Uh, I'm prepared to go forward with it. I'm here live, I'm not a cat," Ponton said on the video as he works to remove the filter.

Ponton appeared on the TODAY show Wednesday morning and spoke to Carson Daly

He told TODAY he realized the video had gone viral when he was having lunch after the hearing and his phone started "blowing up" with calls from the country and the world.

"I didn't know if I was in trouble - or what was going on," he told Daly. "I finally figured it out."

He added: "I think I got as big a laugh out of it as everybody else."

Ponton said on the show that he was using his secretary's computer - who has a young daughter and that is likely how he ended up as a cat.

"It certainly made my day," he said on the TODAY show.

And it made ours too. And we hope it made yours, too!
