Atlanta area animal shelters stress 'urgent situation' with overcapacity, plead for adoptions

Adoptions will be free until July 21, LifeLine Animal Project said.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Animal advocates in Georgia say the state is at a crisis point.

The Dekalb County Animal Shelter took in 43 dogs on Tuesday alone.

Volunteers had to set up temporary kennels in the shelter lobby and storage room to accommodate all of the new intakes.

In a Facebook post, volunteers for LifeLine shared: “Yesterday marked one of our highest intake days this year, with 43 dogs arriving. Along with the many stray dogs being brought in by our community, Animal Control Officers brought in a significant number of dogs, including 10 from a single situation. We’ve had to set up crates in the lobbies of our facility to make space for these animals.

As an open intake shelter, we’re doing everything we can to provide for them, but we urgently need your help. All adoptions will be free this week, until July 21, as a part of our Lifesaving Adoption Event. We also desperately need crates to house the incoming dogs.

Please help us today at 3280 Chamblee Dunwoody Road.”

All available dogs are listed on their website if you are ready to find your new best friend!
