Spot a coyote? Keep these tips from Gwinnett County Police in mind

Follow these precautions to keep you and your pets safe

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County Police are issuing tips regarding coyote safety after receiving reports about the animals from residents in the area.

While coyotes are a part of the natural environment, officers are still encouraging residents to follow these precautions to ensure they and their pets are safe:

  1. Secure food sources, including pet food, birdseed and any fruit that may have fallen from trees
  2. Keep smaller pets indoors, especially at night. Always supervise your pets as well and keep dogs on leashes.
  3. Call Gwinnett Animal Welfare at 770-339-3200 for assistance if you notice a coyote exhibiting unusual behavior.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has more information on coyote sightings and keeping pets safe. Check out the DNR's guide online here.
