DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County Animal Services is making an urgent plea to save several dozen dogs on Tuesday, saying it needs to reach a target population by 7 p.m. and that if they cannot reach the target number, dogs will "face the possibility of euthanasia."
The agency first posted a plea for help finding the dogs homes at roughly 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning. They said at that time they were trying to find homes for 44 dogs to get down to a target population of 484 dogs.
The situation took on even more urgency in the afternoon, as DeKalb County Animal Services reported they'd heard from animal enforcement that they'd be getting a new group of 13 dogs arriving at the shelter.
"This means over 55 dogs urgently need to find homes by the end of today," the agency said. "We desperately need assistance from our rescue partners and community now than ever. Our staff are pleading for help to come save the dogs they love and care for here at the shelter."
That update was posted at 1:35 p.m.
DeKalb County Animal Services said earlier that "at risk dogs face the possibility of euthanasia if we do not reach" the target number.
The shelter is located at 3280 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. and their phone number is 404-294-2949. You can also find more information on adopting here at dekalbanimalservices.com/adopt.
