DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County Sheriff's K-9s will soon have new bulletproof vests, the agency announced on social media.
The sheriff's office said that protecting their law enforcement officers, including the deputy K-9s within the department, is a "commendable step."
The vests will provide added protection to the K-9s as they perform various law enforcement operations and can even help save their lives during potentially dangerous situations, the sheriff's office said.
"The use of protective gear like bulletproof vests can help mitigate the risks associated with their duties, and it demonstrates a commitment to the welfare of these valuable members of the law enforcement team," the sheriff's office said in the social media post.
This isn't the first metro Atlanta law enforcement agency to protect their pups. A Forsyth County deputy K-9 is now sporting a new bulletproof vest after a donation from Vested Interest in K9s, which features a message on the vest that honors one of its fallen K-9s.
