Frankfort Police Department mourns loss of retired K-9

The Frankfort Police Department announced Feb. 1 the death of retired K-9 Otto.

FRANKFORT, Ind. — The Frankfort Police Department is mourning the loss of a retired K-9.

In a post on social media, the department announced the death of Otto, a German Shepherd who joined Frankfort police in April 2015 and retired in November 2019.

Otto had been living with the family of a police captain since 2015.

"During K9 Otto’s time with the department, he was responsible for 117 drug-related arrests and located impressive quantities of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and other illegal drugs and narcotics, preventing them from ending up on the streets of Frankfort," the department said.
