Love is in the air - and animals in Atlanta can smell it!
"DIG" is a new dating app just launched specifically for people in Atlanta to help animal-lovers fall in love.
"Oh we’ve been giving out lots of kisses," said Sharon Saha. She knows her dogs steal the show.
She set up a kissing both at the launch party for the DIG dating app.
"I mean who doesn’t love a kiss from a dog," she asked.
Turns out, there are people who don't. That's why the founder of DIG created the app in the first place.
"A few years ago my sister was dating a guy who tried to be a dog person for her, but by the end of the relationship he didn’t want the dog in his apartment," explained co-founder Leigh Isaacson. "He’d put towels down on the couch so the dog wouldn’t touch anything, and she said to me, 'I wish I just knew from the start that this wasn’t going to work because of my dog'."
She wanted people to form meaningful relationships around one of the most important things in their life - their pets. She's found connecting over animals brings people together quicker than the traditional dating scene.
"You bring your dog with you on a date, you let your walls down," Isaacson said. "You can’t go on a date and pick up poop and still try to act pompous."
The app just launched in Atlanta, but it's been rolling out in different cities over the past year. It's totally free to download and already has thousands of users.
"Everywhere we go, we just see people’s eyes light up. Like, 'I get to show off my dog as the main part of dating?' And just really a more compatibility focused type of dating app," Isaacson said. "So people have really loved it."
Since it's still so new, no one has met and gotten married on the app - yet.
"I hope they find love, and, you know, I hope that love benefits each other, but also the dog in their life or the future dog in their life," she said.
And you don't need to have a dog to be on the app - you can just love dogs, or want to find someone you can eventually own a dog with.
