Kangaroo capture: Missing joey found safely in north Georgia

Perhaps the jack wanted to get out to search for some Thanksgiving leftovers.

GILMER COUNTY, Ga. — For a brief period on Friday afternoon, one part of north Georgia turned into a scene out of Australia.

If you saw an animal hopping around Gilmer County on two legs, then you likely spotted an escaped pet kangaroo named Stevie. The jack went missing from the Blackberry Mountain area in Ellijay.

The 3-foot-tall tame joey came to Georgia with his owner from outside the state before Stevie got loose on Friday afternoon. Perhaps Stevie didn't get enough to eat on Thanksgiving and was out searching for leftovers.

Sgt. Beavers of the Gilmer County Sheriff's Office saved the day when he found Stevie roaming around. We'll forgive the cute buck for being a Florida Gators fan.
