New video shows these adorable twin horses recovering at UGA's vet hospital

Both of the twins had to have surgeries after they were born earlier this week.

ATHENS, Ga. — After defying the odds with their rare birth, new video shows these adorable twin foals continuing to grow stronger as they recover at the University of Georgia’s Veterinary Hospital.

On Monday, a Blue Roan Mare named Tilly shocked her owner, Melissa Jarvis, with the twins' surprise birth.

“It was an ‘Oh My God’ moment for everybody,” Jarvis said earlier this week. “We were only expecting one."

In an update on Thursday, Jarvis said the colt and filly continue to recover after their surgeries.

New video shows the colt standing after he had emergency surgery on Wednesday to repair a ruptured, leaking bladder.

"He pulled through it," Jarvis said. "The colt is doing much better after his surgery. All the lab work abnormalities have resolved because of the successful surgery."

Jarvis said the filly is also "doing great," and they're "hoping this is the last 24 hours of her needing splints."

Jarvis has created an online campaign to help her cover the medical expenses. She said that while she did save for the routine bills of a pregnancy, she wasn’t expecting twins and the medical care now being provided.

UGA’s Veterinary Hospital is also taking donations directly to help cover the costs of the round-the-clock care needed to give these foals a fighting chance at beating the odds. You can donate directly by calling their Large Animal Hospital at 706-542-3223.
