ATLANTA — Zoo Atlanta has a special surprise in store for twin pandas Ya Lun and Xi Lun on their birthday today.

The twin pandas, which were the first twins born in the United States in more than two decades, are turning eight years old.

The zoo said on their Facebook page that they have "festive surprises" planned for the big day, and that they'll be revealed when the pandas enter the dayroom of their living area.

There's no set time for when that will happen -- it'll be up to Ya Lun and Xi Lun -- so the zoo advises if you want to see the magic moment, keep tuned to the Panda Cam today.

The Facebook post stated:

Ya Lun and Xi Lun turn 8 tomorrow! The Panda Care Team has planned some festive surprises for the twins on their big day. Because the twins want to be in on the “birthday surprise” theme too, in panda-perfect fashion, only they know for sure when they will come out into the dayroom to celebrate, so stay tuned throughout the day to PandaCam presented by Cricket! #OnlyZooATL

Atlanta residents who want to see the pandas should get out to the zoo in the next few weeks -- the twins, along with their parents Lun Lun and Yang Yang, are due to return to China before the end of the year.

The pandas are returning to China because the zoo's agreement to be their home is expiring after 25 years, Zoo Atlanta previously announced.
