Tucked off Windward Parkway in Alpharetta, NAHM Fine Thai Cuisine welcomes diners with intimate tables and white table linens for a taste of Thailand. At the Table ATL joined Executive Chef and owner Nahm Thongyoung in the kitchen for an exploration of the many flavors of her home's cuisine.
'If you live in Thailand 365 days, and try one dish a day, it’s not the gonna be the same,” Thongyoung said.
The restaurant’s menu features familiar dishes like pad Thai and fried rice alongside chef specialties such as soft shell crab green curry and braised short ribs. But it’s the grilled seafood platter, an eye-catching dish of jumbo prawns, jumbo scallops and New Zealand mussels garnished with orchids, that Thongyoung prepared to discuss her home country.
“How does this dish represent Thailand?”
“I grew up near the beach, so we always have the fresh seafood,” Thongyoung said, surrounded by busy tables and dining accolades adorning the walls. “We got tons of dish that people still don’t know, you know?”
Yet, Thongyoung believes Atlanta’s food scene is on the cusp, a “New York in the South.”
“How does this dish represent Atlanta?”
“Since I live here, I fell in love here. People are very friendly, very nice,” she said. “It’s more laid back, but you still have everything you need.”
