ATLANTA — Chick-fil-A has launched its first-ever digital cookbook. The company said in a release, it hopes the cookbook will raise more awareness of food insecurity and the importance of reducing food waste.
On Monday, the Atlanta-based fast-food chain introduced the free online recipe book called "Extra Helpings." The company said the cookbook was inspired by Chick-fil-A's Shared Table food donation program.
The digital cookbook features 26 recipes for breakfasts, dinners, side dishes and desserts. Recipes include a fruit smoothie, chicken and egg breakfast casserole, chicken enchiladas, sweet and sour Chick-fil-A nuggets, nugget fried rice, apple cobbler and much more.
Additionally, the cookbook features recipes and stories from local nonprofits, which partner with Chick-fil-A to repurpose food donations across the U.S. and Canada. Puerto Rico is also set to pilot the program later this fall.
When you click on the individual recipes, be sure to check out which organization the recipe came from. In the recipe book, the Atlanta nonprofit Second Helpings is featured for its Waffle Potato Fry Frittata.
The recipe book also features a few classic Chick-fil-A recipes including former menu items like Coleslaw and Chicken Salad.
Throughout the online cookbook, Chick-fil-A shares ideas for at-home cooks and how to reduce waste.
“Our goal for ‘Extra Helpings’ is not only to inspire individuals to reimagine their extra food into new, delicious recipes, but also spark conversations about the important issues of food insecurity and food waste,” Chick-fil-A Senior Director of Corporate Social Responsibility Brent Fielder said.
Across the U.S. and Canada, Chick-fil-A said collectively it has donated over 23 million meals in the past 11 years.
"While we’re pleased with this milestone, we know there is more work to be done, which is why we’re spotlighting this important issue," Fielder added.
