ATLANTA — More than two weeks after seafood restaurant chain Red Lobster filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed over 50 of its locations across the United States, there may soon be even more shutting its doors.
That's because the company recently revealed in bankruptcy court documents a list of more than 130 additional locations it may want to close if it's unable to renegotiate its leases.
In the filings, Red Lobster listed locations where it wishes to reject the leases because they "are likely to continue to drive losses" if everything is kept the same.
The Orlando, Florida-based seafood chain had been struggling with its rising lease and labor costs.
On May 20, it was revealed that three Red Lobster locations would be permanently closing in Georgia -- with its restaurants in Roswell, Athens and Dublin shutting down. Now, there are four more stores in Georgia -- including two in metro Atlanta and one in north Georgia, that could soon be closing.
Red Lobster stores on verge of closing in Georgia
- 2579 Cobb Parkway in Smyrna
- 6550 Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro
- 700 Shorter Ave. in Rome
- 2679 Adams Farm Dr. in Columbus
Days after filing for bankruptcy, the company issued a statement reassuring customers that it wasn't going out of business.
Red Lobster has yet to announce or confirm any additional store closings.
