ATLANTA — Zesto, the comfort food Atlanta icon for 70 years is celebrating its birthday today with 70 cent chili dogs.
In 1949, John Livaditis received a franchise for his own Zesto and opened his first store in Atlanta on Peachtree Road across the street from Brookwood Amtrak Station.
John Livaditis' son, Jimbo, who now owns and operates the business, said he wishes his father was here to see this and celebrate with the community.
"I don't know if he would have imagined that 70 years after he started, we'd be at this point," he said. "It's very gratifying to see what he and all his employees were able to put together."
Zesto, who has five locations in the area, remains known for its ice cream, burgers and chili dogs.
"We are so grateful to have the support of the city of Atlanta and all the folks who have gotten us here," Livaditis added.
Livaditis said they aren't sure how many dogs they'll sell today, but mentioned that they are going to calculate how many miles long it would equate to.
There is a 15 dog limit today, according to its Facebook page.
