MIDLAND, Texas —
The Brookdale Midland senior living community celebrated the 101st birthday of one of their residents Sunday.
Friends and family of Lavern Shultz also came out to celebrate with her.
“I personally am really, really proud of who my grandmother is, who she's been throughout her entire life, the trials and tribulations that she has gone through, and that she has overcome just with her presence and her sweetness and her kindness and to all the people that she knows has really, really helped my sister and I grow to be the women that we are today, and I'm very proud of her,” said Kimber Jama, Shultz's granddaughter.
Shultz was a cheerleader in high school and played sports like basketball, softball, and tennis.
Her granddaughters also say that she’s always been a selfless person and given back to the community during her life and has always had a kind soul.
“For me, GG has always been just the most non-judgmental person you've ever met in your life. She accepts anybody for who they are. If they are a kindhearted person, you're in her bubble, she will accept you, no questions asked. It doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, and that to me has been an inspiration growing up and just I strive to be like her.” said Heather Brandt, another granddaughter of Shultz.
Shultz says that family is everything to her and that people should take more time to love their family.
“Love each other and family; love your family as much as you can because you never know. Not very many grow old like this,” said Shultz.
