WASHINGTON — Christmas is getting us uplifted today — specifically, one very resilient tree that has withstood the storm and will soon adorn the people's house.
Resilient because until recently, the Cartner Christmas Tree Farm in Avery County, North Carolina, where this tree was grown, was not reachable by road because of the damage done by remnants of Hurricane Helene.
But on Monday, a team from the White House was able to get there, and that team selected the 20-foot Fraser Fir to be the official indoor Christmas tree for the White House. The tree that will stand in the blue room.
"The trees here are fantastic," Dale Haney, White House grounds superintendent, said. "And this year in particular because of all that they've been through in the last month, it's great to show the resilience of North Carolina and what they're able to do."
The farm lost around 7,000 trees to sell in the storm, but not this one. This beautiful tree has been through so much and took 25 years to grow, it's almost hard to see it cut down. But rest assured, this tree, with a story to tell, will have a new life in the White House, bringing happiness to so many who will enjoy it throughout the holidays.
