ATLANTA — For 12 years, "Madeline’s Christmas" was a holiday staple at the Horizon Theatre in Virginia Highland until the pandemic shut it down. And finally, this season-they’re back.
“The first show, I was pretty nervous, but now I got the hang of it and it’s really fun,” said Mary Camp McCamy, who plays Madeline. McCamy is one of 24 girls in "Madeline’s Christmas," there are two casts of 12.
“The crowd loves it and they laugh and clap," said McCamy.
This year marks the show's 13th season. However, the last time it was performed was back in 2019. Three months after that performance, the pandemic hit and shut the theatre down.
“What we missed in the pandemic- we were really isolated and were not able to be a community but Madeline is totally an opportunity not only for the case but for the audience," said director Spring Mason.
Mason has been with the production since the get-go and says they wanted to get back on stage in 2022, but COVID numbers were too high in August when the auditions would have taken place.
She says people asked every year when they were coming back.
"There’s something about a live performance experience, like the audience bonds and they bond with the girls. It’s really delightful," said Mason.
There are 40 shows between Dec. 2 and Dec.31. The cast of girls are from across metro Atlanta and from as far away as Athens. They have been rehearsing since back in September.
"It hits on family, a little bit of magic that miracles can happen," said Mason.
Bringing some Christmas magic back in person, on stage.
"It’s very sweet and very charming. And I hope Atlanta will come and support us and come see it," said Mason.
“It’s really great because it’s a really good show and everyone loves it," McCamy added.
They’ll be performing "Madeline's Christmas" every day, except Christmas Day, through the end of the year. For more schedule information, click here.
