SEATTLE -- Most people don't even know anyone lives there. But for over a decade Petra Franklin and her kids have called the top of Seattle's historic Smith Tower home.
"I just looked up and thought it was just an amazing and incredible home," said Petra.
The place was in pretty rough shape. Petra convinced the owners that she should move in. Over time, she and her family have made it their own.
"It was more like a treehouse than an apartment," said Petra.
The apartment has two bedrooms and two-bathrooms and a renovated kitchen. Overhead in the living room is the apartment's centerpiece: a Dale Chihuly chandelier.
But a few stories above the chandelier is something even more impressive.
"At the tippy top is a globe," said Petra. "You have all (glass) sides and my kids and I love hanging out in there."
"There's a lot of energy when you put your head out of the window and really feel the city. It's powerful," said Petra.
The rent cost is undisclosed as the family has signed a 20-year lease. They are 10 years into the lease, but if Petra had her wish, she and her daughters would stay there much longer.
"Forever, if it was my choice," said Petra.
