FOREST PARK, Ga. — A dog and her five puppies had to be rescued from a storm drain in Forest Park. They are safe thanks to the incredible work of the Forest Park Fire Department.
The nonprofit Joy's Promise Canine Rescue discovered the dogs in the storm drain. The founder, Heather Goforth, worked for hours to free the pups and called in fire department for assistance.
Goforth said the firefighters responded to the scene and stayed there for hours working to free the animals. Crews eventually had to bring out the jaws of life to cut them free.
Firefighters returned the next day with a thermal reader, to make sure no additional puppies were caught in the drain.
"The firefighters deserve so much praise. They didn't have to do this. Instead, they went so far above and beyond to make sure these animals were safe. We are so grateful," said Goforth.

Goforth added she was so impressed with the dedication and compassion of the firefighters that she is naming the puppies after them.
Joy's Promise Canine Rescue named the mother dog, Kindle, and the puppies Baker, Captain, Chief, and Ember.
The dogs will all be available for adoption through Joy's Promise.
