Metro Atlanta leaders, law enforcement unveil holiday safety plans

City leaders gathered outside Lenox Square Mall where over a million people visit every month making it the busiest place in the southeast for goods and services.

ATLANTA — Atlanta Police, Atlanta Fire and Rescue and other leaders joined forces early Thursday morning unveiling a new plan for holiday safety in the city.

City leaders gathered outside Lenox Square Mall where over a million people visit every month making it the busiest place in the southeast for goods and services, according to Mayor Andre Dickens.

They plan to continue implementing plans from this summer, including increased patrols at shopping centers and areas where car break-ins happen more frequently.

The Atlanta Police Department also spoke about additional cars being added to its fleet and provided more insights about tackling crime during the holiday season. On the other front, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department unveiled its new rapid response vehicles and share safety tips tailored to the cold weather to keep the community safe.

Leaders also promoted their clean car campaign which encourages residents to help them combat car break ins by removing their items and firearms from their vehicles.

"Please make sure you keep those packages with you. Do not leave them in your car as your go from location to the next. Lock them up, keep them safe, or keep them with you," said Chief Darin Schierbaum at Thursday's news conference.
