ATLANTA — An Atlanta-based nonprofit aims to close the nation's wealth gap and promote social justice by increasing the number of Black entrepreneurs.
Operation HOPE announced plans on Oct. 20 to create one million new Black-owned businesses nationwide by 2030.
"The creation of ownership, jobs and opportunity in a generation helps to strengthen democracy and ensure freedom through self-determination," John Hope Bryant, CEO and founder of Operation HOPE, told the Atlanta Business Chronicle. "This is empowerment at scale."
The organization is working with Shopify, a global commerce company, which has agreed to provide $130 million worth of tools and resources.
To level the playing field, the one million Black business initiative "intends to focus on critical tools for business success such as technology and resources, educational programs, and the opportunity to access capital," according to a news release.
